France and Saudi Arabia Strengthen Economic Partnership, Expanding Beyond Oil Industry

Date:

Saudi Arabia and France are witnessing a transformation in their economic relationship as trade increasingly mirrors the Kingdom’s strategic move to broaden its economic base beyond oil dependency. In a notable shift, 2025 saw France exporting goods worth nearly $4.5 billion to Saudi Arabia, while the imports from the Kingdom accounted for approximately $3.7 billion. This development marks a departure from the past trend where Saudi Arabia typically maintained a trade surplus with France.

This reversal is largely attributed to France’s reduced imports of oil and petroleum products, as the country has diversified its energy sources. Additionally, the relatively low oil prices in 2025 further diminished the value of energy imports from Saudi Arabia. Concurrently, the demand for French products in Saudi Arabia has escalated, encompassing a wide array of sectors such as aerospace, industrial equipment, pharmaceuticals, technology, as well as perfumes and cosmetics.

The increasingly diverse trade portfolio is a testament to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, aimed at diminishing its reliance on oil revenues and fostering the growth of new industries. This strategic initiative is propelling economic diversification and paving the way for French companies to explore burgeoning opportunities within the Kingdom.

As investment and economic activities gain momentum across non-oil sectors in Saudi Arabia, French enterprises are positioning themselves to capitalize on this evolving landscape. The mutual economic interests continue to expand, underpinning a new chapter in Saudi-French economic collaboration that reflects a shared commitment to broader and more sustainable economic engagements.
