Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed European leaders and officials at the inaugural Carpathian 8 Summit in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, western Ukraine, aiming to strengthen regional cooperation among eight nations. The summit, which runs from September 18 to 20, serves as a platform to discuss key issues such as security, energy, and transport.
The gathering attracted leaders and representatives from Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Czechia, Hungary, Slovakia, and Austria. Notable attendees included Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Romanian President Nicusor Dan, and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. Slovakia was represented by a high-ranking foreign ministry official. The summit’s agenda emphasizes cross-border economic collaboration and support for local communities.
Economic discussions were a key component, drawing approximately 500 business representatives to explore investment and development opportunities. President Zelensky announced that investment agreements and projects valued at over €1 billion are in preparation, with nearly 100 projects presented by participating nations.
Key topics included enhancing transport and energy infrastructure to improve regional mobility and trade. Poland reiterated its support for Ukraine, emphasizing the significance of regional collaboration. The summit also aims to bolster Ukraine’s integration into Europe and coordinate efforts with countries holding varied positions on military aid to Kyiv.
