Andrew Tate Remains Vanuatu Citizen; Government Unmoved

Date:

Andrew Tate remains a Vanuatu citizen, with the government unmoved by calls for revocation after a thorough review of his citizenship acquisition. This outcome ensures that the controversial influencer will continue to hold his “golden passport,” a decision that has garnered significant public and media attention due to his ongoing legal battles. The government’s stance is based on the legality of the original application process.

Government spokesperson Kiery Manassah stated that the citizenship office’s examination of Tate’s file found that he had been cleared by Interpol and the UK when his citizenship was granted. This adherence to established procedures at the time is the basis for the government’s current decision, indicating no procedural faults were found.

Manassah acknowledged that if the government had been aware of the serious allegations against Tate during his application, his citizenship would have been denied. He expressed regret for this oversight but stressed that current legal frameworks do not permit retroactive revocation based on information that emerged subsequently.

This case has highlighted the need for stricter controls within Vanuatu’s citizenship-by-investment program. The government is committed to implementing enhanced due diligence measures to prevent similar controversies and to improve the program’s often-criticized international reputation, aiming for more robust and reliable applicant vetting
