Match Report: Raducanu Defeats Tjen 6-2, 6-1 in Second Round

Date:

Emma Raducanu has advanced to the third round of the US Open following a comprehensive 6-2, 6-1 victory over Indonesian qualifier Janice Tjen. The match, held on Louis Armstrong Stadium, was a one-sided affair controlled by the British No. 1 from start to finish.

Raducanu’s performance was founded on a dominant serve. In the first set, she won 84% of her first-serve points and recorded five aces. This allowed her to play aggressively from the baseline, dictating the majority of the rallies and preventing Tjen from establishing her rhythm. Raducanu broke Tjen’s serve multiple times in each set.

Tjen, who had a notable victory over the 24th seed Veronika Kudermetova in the first round, was unable to replicate that form. The 23-year-old, who turned professional in June of last year, struggled to cope with the pace and depth of Raducanu’s shots. Her varied game, which includes a notable backhand slice, was largely neutralized.

This marks Raducanu’s second consecutive straight-sets win in the tournament. She now awaits the winner of the match between ninth seed Elena Rybakina and qualifier Tereza Valentova for a place in the round of 16.
