Europe is reacting with cautious optimism after President Trump temporarily halted a sweeping tariff plan against the EU. The 50% import duty, previously expected to take immediate effect, will now be reviewed on July 9.
The delay comes after direct talks between Trump and Ursula von der Leyen. Following the conversation, European leaders expressed hope that the reprieve will lead to a permanent resolution of trade tensions.
Negotiations led by EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič have been described as constructive. A deal could be within reach if both sides act quickly, with the EU offering to drop tariffs on key sectors.
